Barn Stars were fasten to Pennsylvania Dutch barns starting around 1840
and they had a dual purpose. It was an Hex sign to ward of evil, and
to old the walls in place for stone and brick structures. A long
pole went through the walls and each end was bolted with a star.
This added structure and kept the walls from
separating.
