This is a Chewing
Tobacco Grinder from the 20s and 30s. Estimated
Retail Value is $55. Every
depression era farm, both north and south, had one to grind their own
chewing tobacco. Back then, a
farmer would plant some special tobacco, pick it, put some into the top of
this grinder, and grind away. The side opens up to take out their
concoction. Sometimes the old
farmers would put honey in for a better taste.
You don’t see many of these around anymore – in a way – I’m
glad because I never liked the “spitting” part!
Has anyone ever used one of these or have an interesting story -
Give us a call at Holly Hill Farm Antiques 695-1146 or call the comments
