This is a Clothes
Line Stringer from when people used to hang out clothes instead of
using a dryer. Estimated Retail
Value is $12 - $18 and are scarce because people used to burn them up
after they were no longer needed.
Years ago, back on the farm, washday was on a Monday (after a
weekend) the ladies would hand out their families clothes to dry in the
fresh air. Usually they would
string a new line out because if you would let up the same line as was
used the week before it would stretch out from the rain.
So after each washing, the line would be wrapped up around this
piece of wood and hung up in the shed.
Hanging out the wash saved money and conserved energy – wish more
people would do it today. Anybody
ever use one of these? Have
an interesting story from the old days - Give us a call at Holly Hill Farm
Antiques 695-1146 or call the comments line at GLO-Clips.
