Back on the Farm – What is it?

This is a Cast Iron Match Holder from the 1930s and 1940s. Estimated Retail Value $22.  Stick matches went in the top and then they were retrieved from the bottom.  I know this wasn’t a very hard “What is it?” - I just wanted to tell you that match holders are really collectible right now.  Many match holders were made of tin also.   What’s really nice with these holders is that you can hang them right next to a stove or fireplace – exactly where a match is needed.  Match holders make really good old fashion sense and convenient too.  Today, every time I need a match I must rummage thru several drawers until I find a book of them or an empty lighter.    If anyone is still using one of these call Holly Hill Antiques 804-695-1146 or call the comments line at GLO-Clips.
